Welcome to The Albany Echo, a blog with a rich and storied history deeply rooted in the heart of Texas. Our journey began in the late 19th century when George W. Robson, a native of Fort Griffin, embarked on a mission to provide the local community with a trusted source of news and information. Around 1874-1877, during the heyday of Fort Griffin, Robson first introduced the Fort Griffin Echo to the area. However, recognizing the shifting tides of opportunity and growth, he relocated the publication to Albany just four years later, renaming it The Albany Echo.
This iteration of the paper continued for a two-year period, becoming an integral part of the town's fabric. In 1884, Robson, due to poor health, made a significant decision by merging The Echo with its rival publication, The Albany Star, giving birth to what we now know as the Albany News. Well over a century later, we carry forward this legacy of The Echo and have a strong commitment to the community, and the spirit of delivering stories that matters most to the people of Albany.
From tales of yesteryears to the vibrant narratives of today, The Albany Echo aims to be your source for the rich tapestry of our beloved Albany area.
My love for Shackelford County's history runs deep. I grew up in Moran and moved to Albany at the age of 10. After graduating from Texas Tech, I spent ten years in Arlington working in the sports industry before returning to Albany to embrace the small-town life. Immersed in the community, I'm passionate about sharing the incredible frontier history of this area on The Albany Echo. Join me as we uncover the captivating stories that make Albany so special.
